It wasn't the girl's rag doll they threw, maybe a baby, and yes, Billy Joe McCallister did jump off the Tallahatchie Bridge. After all, she was the only one who was sad.



I saw the movie years and years ago, starred Robbie Benson, what a hunk then! Anyhow, I remember that scene, I think it was a rag doll they threw off...anyhow, I know that the girl picked flowers on Choctaw Ridge and threw them off the Tallahatchie Bridge at the end of the movie.

Billy Joe and his girl friend were up on the bridge after the little country fair they had and he was trying yo tell her that he was violated by his boss and that he couldn't handle it .understand it and didn't know what to do. and back in those days stuff like that wasn't discussed in the open. She had her rag doll with her and and in the frustration of it all it fell into the river. later on he jumped in . and she went away to play it off like she was pregnant to save face for him and her.
